What can relativistic ion collisions teach us about neutron stars
2019.05.06 9:57 - AgnieszkaTurlejCollisions of ions at relativistic energies and studied at BNL (USA) and at CERN. Soon, a dedicated NICA accelerator complex will be completed at JINR in Dubna, and soon after the FAIR complex at GSI. All those facilities aim to study the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter, which is directly related to the neutron star equation of state. In addition a large number of baryons, including the ones

The origin of low effective spins in LIGO/Virgo binary black hole mergers
2019.04.25 13:30 - AgnieszkaTurlejAll of the ten LIGO/Virgo binary black hole (BH-BH) merger detections to date have low values for their effective spins. There are only three potential explanations of this fact. If BH spin magnitudes are large then (i) both BH spin vectors must lie in/near orbital plane or (ii) BH spins are pointing in opposite directions. Or (iii) BH spin magnitudes are small.

New picture of the Milky Way
2019.04.11 14:42 - AgnieszkaTurlejMilky Way is a complex system which exploration is hampered due to the presence of interstellar dust and the location of our Sun close to the Galactic plane. I will review the current knowledge on the structure and evolution of the Milky Way based on the most recent results obtained by large surveys.

Molecular outflows in nearby starburst galaxies
2019.01.11 12:39 - AgnieszkaTurlejGalactic molecular outflow plays a key role on galaxies evolution. Galaxies eject molecular gas and energy into the intergalactic medium through galactic outflows. This process affects star formation activities in galaxies. NGC2146 and NGC3628 are two nearby starburst galaxies with kpc-scale X-ray outflows. I will present my recent CO observations on these two galaxies.
