GENERAL SCOPE OF DEPARTMENT'S ACTIVITY

• Research and development projects in the field of particle acceleration
• Design and technology of accelerators
• Implementation of new solutions and participation in construction and exploitation of various types of accelerator devices dedicated to research purposes or applications in medicine, industry, agriculture, environmental protection, nuclear energy and others
• Upgrading and dissemination of knowledge on development directions and new applications of accelerator techniques
• Cooperation with home and foreign centres of accelerator physics eg. DESY, INFN, CERN etc.

IN PARTICULAR CURRENT ACTIVITIES ARE ORIENTED ON:

• Theoretical works in accelerator physics; elaboration and implementation of computer codes for numerical calculations and processes' simulation related to:
  • electron and ion optics
  • electrostatic and resonance accelerating structures, also superconducting
  • particle motion dynamics in electrical and electromagnetic fields
  • focalization and transport of electron, proton and ion beams
  • interaction with targets, collimation and forming of primary and secondary beams
• Methods and metrological equipment for measurements and diagnostics of beams
• Designing and construction of experimental facilities for testing of model units
• Elaboration and implementation of new technologies in design and construction of accelerator systems
• Design and construction of new accelerators of various types, e.g.:
  • linear electron accelerators
  • linear proton or heavy-ion accelerators
  • isochronous cyclotrons
  • high-power, low energy accelerators
  • other accelerator related equipment
  • superconducting systems in accelerators
