Department of Training and Consulting arranges systematic courses of radiation physics for high-schools, teachers and university students. In addition, it conducts training in the field of radiological safety and risks connected with ionizing radiation. Department accepts yearly about 5000 high-school pupils for whom a special laboratory of atomic and nuclear physics was also organized.
Unique experimental physics laboratory for high-schools was organized by the Department. The laboratory offers possibilities of experiments, carried out by the high-school students themselves, who may learn this way basic properties of X-rays (X-ray spectrum from the tube, attenuation in various materials, Compton
scattering, diffraction etc.) as well as a, b and g radiation, measure e/m ratio, investigate the properties of luminescence, see the gamma spectra of various radioactive sources by gamma spectrometry, study excitation of atoms by
gamma radiation, etc.

The lecture hall is equipped in various didactical means: demonstration set-ups like
video system, which permits one to show pedagogical films, as well as experimental units for demonstration of phenomena from atomic and nuclear radiation physics. When small objects (like the model of Wilson chamber) are displayed one may project the image through the video-camera to the TV screen.

| Next to the lecture hall an exhibition „Radioactive wastes: problems,
solutions” was arranged and is permanently open to the public. The
exhibition contains many tableaux which serve as introductory material, so the
visitors do not need a help of a professional guide. Nevertheless, it is quite
typical that our staff is guiding the tours over the exhibition and discusses
the problems of the nuclear wastes treatment and storage with the visitors.
