Structure of the nucleon

As a member of international collaboration HERMES, comprising 35 institutions from Europe, USA, China and Japan, group of the Department of Nuclear Reactions is carrying research work in the german centre DESY in Hamburg using 27.6 GeV accelerator HERA. In the coming years the research activity of the group will be centred at measurements of:
  1. Deep Virtual Compton Scattering of virtual photons radiated in the process of inelastic scattering of 27.6 electrons and positrons. The measurements can be used to extract information on the total angular momentum carried by the quarks and to map out their spatial distribution in the nucleon.
  2. Electroproduction of vector mesons in the inelastic scattering of 27.6 GeV electrons and positrons. This is an excellent tool to study:
Intensive measurements with electron and positron beams are foreseen in 2006-2007 in which collaboration with Ph.D. students would be welcome.
