Collective dynamics of micro- and mesoscopic fermion systems
Description of a large-amplitude collective motion (including quantum tunneling) in systems of 100-10000 fermions is still an open problem of the quantum many-body theory. It is relevant for a wide range of phenomena like nuclear fission, excitations of low density atomic fermion condensates or properties of the asymmetric nuclear matter in the crust of a neutron star.
The project will involve an analysis of simple models as well as numerical calculations for more complex systems.
