Institute Sites

The main site of the Institute is in Swierk near Otwock, about 35 km from the center of Warsaw (see picture below). It houses five Research Departments, Training and Consulting Department, Establishment for Nuclear Equipment (ZdAJ, manufacturer of medical accelerators etc.) and Transport Division. Three Research departments are grouped in downtown Warsaw (69, Hoza street, together with the Institute of Physics of the Warsaw University) and one in the city of Lodz, 5 Uniwersytecka street.

Profile
The Institute is a state owned Laboratory. It carries out pure and applied research on subatomic physics, i.e. the elementary particle and nuclear physics, the hot plasma physics and related fields. It also produces specialized equipment for various applications (notably for medicine and environmental protection). Its staff includes a number of eminent scientists and technology experts. Scientific Council of the Institute grants Ph.D. and habilitation degrees. The Institute conducts advanced training for various inside and outside groups. Swierk may be reached from Warsaw and Otwock by our Institute buses (information: tel. (++48)227180626, (++48)227180627; click here for more information on transport services offered by our Transport Division). The bus from Warsaw departs weekdays from Al. Jerozolimskie nearby entrance to the Military Museum at 10.20 am.
